In recent years, paleontology come up with a lot of surprising facts about dinosaurs. The world's largest dinosaur exhibition, the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), revealed some previously unknown facts.
Head and AMNH curator Mark A. Norell of the division of paleontology at least seven facts reveal surprising and least known of the dinosaurs. What?
There is a pigeon-sized dinosaur
Although the exhibition focuses on the big dinosaurs, not all of these ancient animals have a massive size. Especially since some species actually has a small size.
"In fact, many are about the size of a cat or even a pigeon," says Norell. Is the smallest known dinosaur Pterodactyl, Nemicolopterus Crypticus found in 2008 that only 25.4 cm long.
Dinosaur growth is fast enough
Dinosaurs are relatively fast growing. For example the four-legged dinosaur, Mamenchisaurus. Animals and the long-necked plant eaters are able to achieve the size of the body along 21 meters to be Mamenchisaurus adults, only for 30 years.
There feathered dinosaur
While most dinosaur illustrations depict the animals scaly or thick-skinned like modern elephants, there was a dinosaur that has Protofeather or similar objects covered with feathers. Protofeather marker is not required for flight, but the dinosaurs could not fly, including Velociraptor and Beipiaosaurus, found no wings, but feathers.
Long teeth
One of the largest land carnivores of all time is T-Rex. This dinosaur has the approximate weight of 6350 kg with a length of 13.7 meters. However, it also becomes a giant monster dinosaur with the longest teeth.
Including roots, T-Rex tooth can reach a length of 25.4 cm or throughout the iPad. With the number of teeth as many as 50-60 of this fruit, T-Rex could bite of meat or weighing 226.7 kg adult male tiger in a single bite. Wow!
Bone
Simply complete a dinosaur bone or a part of it is needed to identify a new species of dinosaur. "Nearly half of the 1,200 more dinosaurs have been named and known from a single specimen is unique," says Norell.
Dinosaurs roam near human
"Dinosaurs did not become extinct. Now we call them birds, "says Norell. In fact, a bird closely related to dinosaurs like T-Rex, he added.
Baby-faced
Like most animals, kids dinosaur also has a baby face. In 2010, researchers found a plant-eating dinosaur skull adolescents who show some dinosaurs may have a greater proportion of eyes, faces and funny little more than his parents. (Here)
